Ringers will need to meet at this point at the specified meet times. Please note that these times will be the only times entrance will be permitted. You must have notified us by this Thursday if you want to ring there.  Please note – if you have a particular need for parking during the general ringing at the Minster, there are limited spaces available. Please contact Ed Mack and he will allocate on a first come first served basis.

All ringers who are planning to attend the general ringing at York Minster on Saturday afternoon will need to read the documents at the bottom of this page https://yorkminster.org/about-us/safeguarding/

You will not need to sign anything or bring it with you; it is just for you to read over. When you sign in, you will also be signing that you have read these documents.

Meeting, Evening Meal and Ceilidh

For Saturday, the business meeting, evening meal and social will be at 5:30pm in Strenshall and Towthorpe Village Hall. This is 6.5 miles northeast of York city centre. There is plenty of parking at the Hall. It may be useful to note: Bus times to Strenshall from 15:40 (3 per hour). The last bus back to York centre is 22:59. It's the No. 5 bus.

If you can’t be there in person you can join via  Zoom. To attend online please register by no later than 4:30pm (London time (BST) on Saturday 13th July 2024. Once you have registered your attendance you will be sent details for joining the meeting.

After the meeting the hog roast will be served at 7.30pm, also in the Village Hall. Beer will be available to buy (using tokens – please bring cash!), but you’ll need to BYO soft drink or Wine. There is Tesco 3-4 minutes walk way. The ceilidh will follow with a live band and dancing. We must leave the venue, cleaned by 11.30. We now have over 100 signed up for the meal and ceilidh. If you have not paid please do so before next weekend.

Accommodation

For cheaper accommodation, consider booking outside of York City Centre, e.g. in or towards Strensall, or in nearby towns and villages that are less touristy.

Suggestions

AirBnB usually works out ok if you want multiple rooms, there are plenty in the city centre.

The University has reasonably priced room only accommodation (around £78 a single and £90 a double), but book soon.

There are several Travelodges across York. Be careful to consider whether the one you choose has parking. Layerthorpe is suggested, if you want to be close to the centre but are coming by car. Monks Cross is the nearest to Strenshall Hall. If budget is more important, then look slightly further afield, e.g. maybe Tadcaster, and then drive in from there.

Premier Inn has a number of properties in and around York. Blossom St South and Blossom St North are good if you are coming by train, close to the station, but no parking. Bilbrough Top, between York and Tadcaster (less than half an hour away) is cheaper and has parking.

Booking.com has loads of options, again you are advised to book early.

York has a YHA Youth Hostel, it’s about 20-30 minutes walk from the Minster

There are also a number of other hostels in York providing budget accommodation close to the city centre Astor House and Safestay look good.

Pitchup is a good website offering plenty of camping options within 10 miles of York. Try also Hill Pond Caravan and Camping Park
