July Country Meeting 2006

Exmouth, Devon

This year’s meeting took place in Exmouth under the very expert arrangements of Howard Egglestone and Ian Smith. It really was a weekend for everyone, ringer and non-ringer alike. If you were there for good company, there as an excellent pub venue on the Friday night. For the ringing, countless opportunities to ring a many or as few peals as you wished. For pure enjoyment of the outdoors we were surrounded by beautiful areas to walk and visit (myself, Lizzie and Master Joshua (still too young for peals!) visiting a butterfly farm and otter enclosure – sadly the peal wasn’t long enough to fit in the steam train ride too!).

After the meeting there was a boat trip for those that wanted together with sumptuous buffet and bar.

We were privileged to have some distinguished members attend the weekend events. It was good to see Alf House at the meeting, one of our oldest members. And in the evening on the boat trip we were joined by Dennis and Mary Beresford, Peter Beresford and Joan Summerhayes – I’m sure many on the trip reminisced about events past.

All this very much represented the tradition and great camaraderie of the Society and of the exercise in general.

A very successful and enjoyable country meeting.
