July Country Meeting in Leicestershire

This year the July country meeting is in Leicestershire, with the meeting at Sapcote, near to the Warwickshire border. There will be the usual peals over the weekend, starting on Thursday 12th July.

Some suggestions for eating in the area:

Claybrooke: The Pig in Muck. The only pub in the village, far end of Claybrooke Magna.

Sapcote: The Red Lion have a steak night on Thursday, £6-00. It will be essential to book by Wednesday to avoid disappointment.

Broughton Astley: The White Horse and The Bulls Head serve food. There are also two Indian restaurants, Sunagow is highly recommended (upstairs over gymnasium)

Broughton Astley also has a Chinese and a Cantonese take away.

Market Bosworth: The Red Lion is a good pub serving food. The Blacksmiths if you prefer something up market.

Stoney Stanton: The star Inn, The Blue Bell Inn and The Bulls Head all serve food. Local ringers use the Bulls Head, as a free house it will have four/five real ales on tap.

There is an Indian Restaurant at the far end of the village.

Local Fish & Chip shop on Hinckley Road.

Sharnford; The Countryman. Good wholesome pub food.

The Sharnford Arms. Traditional pub with Chinese restaurant.

Elmsthorpe: The Wentworth Arms. Typical chain pub, serves good food, 2 for 1 menu.

Sapcote: Mill-on-the-Soar; on B4114 just outside Sapcote, the designated accommodation, is also a chain pub. This will be the venue for Friday Evening. Anyone wanting to can book and this is essential if you want to occupy a table of more than four. It does get busy at weekends but providing the weather is fine there is plenty of space outside.

Meeting in Sapcote Church at 4:30pm

Tea and light refreshments will be available in the church hall during the afternoon and prior to the meeting which will be held in church.

Evening Venue

The evening venue will be at Stanton Lakes and will take the form of a hog roast, with a vegetarian option also available. The cost of the meal is £15.00 and this can be paid by cash or cheque to the assistant secretary.

Stanton Lakes is bar/restaurant alongside a Jet Ski lake and is situated about half way between the villages of Sapcote and Broughton Astley. See www.stantonlakes.co.uk

This is a Greene King public house serving the usual pub food with motel rooms alongside. There are 25 rooms and a price of £45-00/double/night bed and breakfast has been negotiated. This motel is within walking distance of Stanton Lakes (1/2 mile).

Other accommodation is available locally; both Stoney Stanton and Sapcote are within walking distance from Stanton Lakes (Sapcote via a well walked bridle path). Since the National Diving Centre is also situated between Sapcote and Stoney Stanton the local accommodation gets booked up so early booking is advised!

These places are within walking distance of Stanton Lakes although the Dive Inn and Fossebrook will both be at least a mile walk. There are several other places locally.

Hinckley, Earl Shilton and Burbage are all about 5 miles away. There is a Premier Inn at Braunstone, Leicester which is on the south side of the city about 1 mile from the M1 and the right side of the city for Sapcote, about 9 miles.
