Not The Dinner Day 2025
NTDD 2025 proved itself as one of the most popular events in the SRCY calendar once again, with the most members signed up for the dinner in recent years. Six peals were rung in London across the weekend, ranging from Pudsey Surprise Major to Spliced Cinques and Maximus. It was great to see so many of our newly-joined members participate in both the ringing and the curry consumption.
Sadly, this writer was unable to take part in any ringing that day due to work commitments, so joined everyone in the Crosse Keys once the ringing was done. Everyone, that is, except Mr D J Page, who was denied entry, having forgotten his ID. Ahh, to be young again! We reconvened in the Bangalore Express – our venue of choice – to once again enjoy their excellent range of curries and glacial beer delivery. A novel addition at the restaurant this year was ‘the boot’ – a vessel, shaped like a boot, which held three and a half pints of a lager of your choice. It’s great if you like your lager to gradually warm and flatten as you drink it, but I think the aficionados stuck with regular pint glasses. Also, beware the ramifications of physics if you hold ‘the boot’ the wrong way as you drain it…
