2022 London Twelve Bell Competition
No matter how many times I ring at St Paul’s there is still something about ringing there that makes me nervous, so I approached the London 12 bell this year with a certain sense of trepidation, mixed with some relief that I’d recovered from a bout of Covid in time to actually take part. Unfortunately Michael was unable to ring at short notice, so many thanks to Nick Brown for stepping in. We were drawn to ring 7th, which meant those of us not ringing for another team had plenty of time to make the most of the free entry to the Cathedral for those attending the competition.
We had been happy with our ringing at our practice at St Paul’s a couple of weeks earlier, however our short practice piece on the day of the competition did not go to plan! We were able to put that behind us and produced what we felt was a solid piece of ringing in the test piece, then it was off to the pub.
The results were given by chief judge Chris Kippin in the pub, much to the bemusement of the few non-ringers who were enjoying a quiet drink! He didn’t have much to say about our ringing, so it was difficult to have an idea from the comments where we might be placed. As the results were given in reverse order, we were very pleased to find we had beaten the bands from St Paul’s and finished in a very creditable second place. Congratulations to the ASCY on their win.
