The Society’s 2023 Informal Dinner will be held at The Dining Room, 1st Floor, Doggett’s Coat and Badge, Blackfriars Bridge, 1 Blackfriars Road, London, SE1 9UD on Saturday 9th September, 6.00 for 6.30pm.
The Society has secured exclusive use of the 1st floor bar of the Doggett’s Coat and Badge, which has panoramic windows overlooking the River Thames, St, Pauls Cathedral and The City of London, just a few minutes’ walk from Blackfriars Station, Southwark tube / Waterloo East.
Members have the choice of variety of different Starters, Mains and Desserts and will be welcomed with a reception drink of prosecco (or a soft alternative). The cost of £53 for 2 courses and £59 for 3 courses also includes tea or coffee and service.
The bar offers an extensive wine list, as well a choice of real ales on cask. There will be a 10% service added to wine ordered from the table but not if pre-ordered or from the bar.

Starter
- Seasonal Soup of the Day (V) - Served with artisan sourdough bread & butter (Gluten Free on request/Lactose free on request).
- Slow Roast Cherry Tomato & Shallot Tart (V) - Topped with goat's cheese and balsamic glaze (Lactose Free on request)/(VEGAN serve on request).
- Sticky Beef Brisket Croquettes - Served with horseradish cream mayonnaise.
- Smoked Scottish Salmon - On sourdough bread with horseradish cream and pickled pink onions.
Main course
- Slow Cooked Beef Rib - Tender beef, cooked in a rich red wine sauce, served with creamy mashed potato, steamed greens and roast carrots
- Grilled Fillets of Sea Bass - Served with Herb-crushed baby potatoes, long stem broccoli and white wine butter sauce.
- Chargrilled Chicken Nourish Bowl Salad - Chargrilled chicken breast on a bed of beluga lentil, quinoa and brown rice salad, houmous, chargrilled long stem broccoli, topped with pumpkin seeds. (Vegan option available).
- Lentil Cottage Pie (Ve) - A rich puy lentil and vegetable pie topped with carrot and swede mash. Served with seasonal greens and roast carrots.
- Lamb shank - Served in a rich minted gravy served with creamy mashed potato, steamed greens and roast carrots.
Dessert
- Bramley Apple Pie - Served with vanilla pod ice cream
- Caramel Biscuit Torte - Served with salted caramel sauce. (Vegan serve available).
- Nicholson's Cheese Board - A selection of cheeses served with crackers, celery, apple and an ale chutney.
