July Country Meeting, Saturday 9th July 2016

This year’s summer country meeting will be held in Northumberland, at Wylam on Tyne, ten miles west of Newcastle.
Public Transport
*PEAL SLOTS NOW FULL*. Peals will be available on Thursday 7th, Friday 8th and in the morning of Saturday 9 July. There will also be a Saturday tour. On Saturday afternoon an informal striking competition will be held on the challenging 22cwt 6 at St Oswin’s church (details below!). Some members may recall a similar event when we had our summer meeting in Lincolnshire in 2009.
The meeting will take place the Upper Hall of Wylam Institute, where afterwards dinner and an evening ceilidh will be held. Dinner will be a two-course meal, with a choice of mains and desserts. A licensed cash bar will be open all evening.
Sign up for peals and dinner below, or under “Upcoming Events”, or complete a tick list at the Wednesday practice. The cost for the event will be £23.00.
Friday pub
The pub on Friday is The Swan, Heddon-on-the-Wall. This is a large gastro pub with real ales and plenty of room. They are happy for people to just turn up so no need to preorder food.
Informal striking competition
If you would like to submit a team to take part in the informal striking competition on Saturday afternoon please contact the Master. Scratch teams can also be formed over the course of the weekend/on the day. The test piece will be a plain course of Newcastle Surprise Minor, judged by Alan Barber. Please meet from 2:15pm.

Location
Wylam Institute is located nearby St Oswin’s church in Wylam on Tyne and about 10 minutes’ walk from Wylam Station:
Trains to and from Newcastle run roughly hourly and it is only a short journey (approx. 20 minutes). The last train to Newcastle leaves Wylam at 22:44hrs on Saturday.
Car Parking
Wylam Institute does not have a car park but there are no parking charges in Wylam.
Accommodation
While there is limited accommodation in Wylam itself, there are several small villages with accommodation on the same line as Wylam, and Newcastle and Hexham are both close by via train or car. It would be advisable to book as soon as you can as it's also popular for visitors to nearby Hadrian's Wall.
