Promoting excellence in ringing around the world

Welcome Guest

July Country Meeting, Saturday July 11th 2015

Event has now expired

The July country meeting this year is being held at Church House, High St, Wimborne, Dorset BH21 1HT. This is one of the highlights of our year with an opportunity to ring with many different members from near and far!

As has become customary, there will be the opportunity for peal ringing not just on the the Saturday morning of the meeting but also on the preceding Thursday and Friday (9-10 July); regarding peal tower locations, the Thursday ones are mostly to the east of Wimborne in the New Forest and to the north of that, and the Friday ones are mainly between Bournemouth and Weymouth i.e. the Purbeck area.

Logged in members can sign up below, or email the Assistant Secretary to be included. There will also be an opportunity to partake in quarter peals on the Friday afternoon if interested. Please make a note when you sign up if so.

On the Saturday the following towers will be available for general ringing:

1000 - 1045 Gussage St Michael (6)

1100 - 1145 Cranborne (8)

1200 - 1245 Witchampton (6)

1430 - 1615 Wimborne Minster (12)

The meeting will be held at 4.30pm in the Minster Church Hall, a short walk from Wimborne Minster Church. Refreshments will be available in the Church Hall preceding the meeting. After the meeting at about 6.30pm a two course meal will be served with three choices for each course, including a vegetarian option, at a cost of £18. There will be a licensed bar serving draught beer and wine at reasonable rates.

Regarding accommodation, unfortunately Wimborne only has one hotel, the Kings Head, but there are a few B&Bs in the town. There are two Premier Inns on the Wimborne side of Poole and lots of other hotels in Poole and Bournemouth but as it will be approaching peak holiday season early booking is essential and some are already sold out, especially on the Saturday night. There are a number of camping and caravan sites in the area and the one nearest to Wimborne is Merley Court Touring Park which is less than two miles away

Car parking

Please Note: All the public car parks in Wimborne have charges from 8 am - 6 pm every day (incl Sundays). There is a mainly-clockwise one-way system in operation as shown by the grey arrows. See car parking map here

Long Term Car Parks – 80p for up to 3 hours, £2 for 3-5 hours. We recommend you use one of these.

Short term Car Parks Short stay car park: 60p/1hr, £2/2 hrs, then £1 per additional hour up to 6 pm

Minster car park – Only for those with parking permits (there is a wedding in the Minster at 1 pm)

Suggested meeting / eating places for Friday evening / Saturday lunchtime.

Alternatively if the weather is good enough, for those wanting a garden alongside a river we suggest the Coventry Arms on the A31 at Corfe Mullen, BH21 3RH

Please sign up as soon as possible so that we can allocate towers to meet the demand, and order the food required. We look forward to seeing your name on the list and your face in the towers!
