St Dunstan-in-the-West Diamond Jubilee bells appeal
An important new bell project supported by the society - please act now if you would like to help
An appeal for £200,000.00 has been launched to restore bells to the tower at the Church of St Dunstan-in-the-West, Fleet Street. The old ring of 8 bells, long disused, were removed in 1969. The plan is that a brand new ring of 10 bells with a tenor of around 11cwt be installed; they will be the only ring of ten in the City of London.
At the January 2011 meeting of the Society members agreed to support this project with an offer of grant from the Bell Restoration fund, this provided vital early backing for the project; to date 7 of the 10 bells have been promised.
A suggestion has been made that the Society Members might also contribute towards an "SRCY Members Bell". The 8th bell, which will cost some £20,000.00, is the target bell for this initiative - thinking of this as £1,000.00 from 20 members, £500 from 40 members, £100.00 from 200 members or even £20.00 from 1,000 members brings this into perspective and it is felt that this is something that we could achieve as a Society. Donations can be gift aided through the SRCY Bell Restoration Fund, a separate "restricted" fund has been set up to receive donations - you can download a gift aid form from the donations page.
Alan Regin is looking to co-ordinate the Members Bell appeal and is very keen to hear from members who would like more information on the project or would like to contribute.
