Celebrate!-in-the-Fields
Celebrate!-in-the-Fields (Sunday 27 April - Sunday 18 May) As part of Festival to celebrate the offical reopening of St Martin's, there will be an Open Day on Saturday 17 May - Discovery Day - when the whole building will be open to the public and the ringers have been asked to take guided tours up the tower.
The plan is to take groups up the spiral staircase to the ringing room for a demonstration of ringing on the middle 6 with a video-link showing the bells ringing, followed by a brief talk and then out through the church roof and down the vergers' stairs at the east end and out through the church.
There will be 6 tours, each expected to last an hour running at 10.30, 11.00, 12.00, 12.30, 13.00 and 13.30. These times have been fixed around other activities going on in the church.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you are available to help either ringing, guiding visitors up the stairs and out through the roof space or manning the door in the porch. We will also need some people to help with set-up from 9.00 and also clearing up after 2.30 when the last tour ends.
It would be helpful if you could indicate the time(s) you will be available. Ideally, we need at least 8 people at any one time throughout the day to make this work.
The ringers will not be involved in selling/issuing tickets - everything is free but visitors to the tower will need to obtain tickets from the Festival Box Office which will enable us to control numbers on each tour.
Does anyone know where we could borrow a flat screen TV for the day?
Also if anyone able to come on the day is a qualified first aider, please could you let me know: elizabeth@aspidistra99.fsnet.co.uk
Thanks
