Society of Royal Cumberland Youths

Promoting excellence in ringing around the world

Welcome Guest

SRCY in New York

In early November, 23 members from both sides of the Atlantic, including residents of Cambridge (Cambs) and Cambridge (MA), met at Trinity Church for a long weekend of ringing. Designed as a "peals and practice" weekend, this was a first visit for many to this lovely 12. For the North American members, it was a rare occasion to ring on 12 for an extended period of time. And ring we did! Many hours were logged in the tower, taking the form of practices with the local band, 12-bell practices, two quarter peals, and three peals. Those among us who are newer to 12-bell ringing made good strides with the help and support of experienced bands and lurkers. Well-organized practice sessions allowed for extended periods at the end of a rope, and improvement was heard throughout the weekend. In addition, we were pleased to see the progress of the Trinity band and enjoyed the opportunity to ring with them for practice and for Sunday service.

Good socializing took place over meals, drinks, and bits of touring in Manhattan. Stories were told and memories were shared while plans were made for future ringing and non-ringing get-togethers.

Special thanks for this successful weekend are due to Alan Regin and Don Morrison for their oodles of organization; Alan and Simon Holden for their well-organized practice sessions; and to Tim Barnes, Tony Furnivall (baker of delicious nut brownies), and the rest of the Trinity Bells group for making us so welcome. We look forward to our return.
